The location of our monthly General Membership meeting is the Marriott Suites in Old Town Scottsdale. The Marriott is located immediately east of Scottsdale Road at 7325 East Third Avenue, just one block north of Indian School Road. Join Ron Dugan on an expedition into some of the most magnificent deep canyons of the Southwest. Learn how canyoneers travel light, even on overnights because they must carry rope, webbing, wet suits, etc. He will share the safety aspects as well as the risks of canyoneering such as falling, drowning, hypothermia, head injury, dehydration, snakebite, getting lost, getting stuck etc. etc. Some canyons have what they call "keeper" potholes. Your feet can't reach the bottom and the other side is to slippery to grab. Hmmm! If you ever looked into a canyon and pondered: "I wonder what it is like down there" this is one presentation you don't want to miss.

We start on the Marshall Gulch Trail, shortly connecting with the beautiful Wilderness of Rocks Trail, where amazing large granite boulders, water carved canyons and Hoodoos abound. We'll have panoramic views of Tucson, Mt. Lemmon and Sabino Canyon. Once we connect with the high country Mt. Lemmon Trail, it's a 5 mile uphill climb to the summit. Bring your lungs! We'll hike to 9,100 ft., then connect with the Aspen Trail that returns us to the Marshall Gulch Trail and we're on our way home. Email either hike leader if you’re interested at least two days before the hike. If there’s sufficient interest in this great hike, it’s on unless there are possible closures due to fire or storms. There is a $5 per vehicle park entry fee, but a National Park Pass will suffice. Cost to non-members is $5.
