The location of our monthly General Membership meeting is the Marriott Suites in Old Town Scottsdale. The Marriott is located immediately east of Scottsdale Road at 7325 East Third Avenue, just one block north of Indian School Road. Join Dan Gruber who will share some very interesting opportunities for hiking close to home in the McDowell Sonoran Preserve. Learn about how the 65 miles of trails in the southern section will be connected with the 100 miles of trails in the north section next year. 165 miles in our backyard…WOW. See the Marcus Landslide, the second largest landslide in Arizona history. View one of the largest exposed quartz veins in the state on a short but brutal side trail. Still got some energy left … then continue on the Quartz Trail to a wash canyon that gets deeper and narrower the further you go. This preserve is right in our backyard. Come prepared to ask Dan any questions you may have about these magnificent hiking opportunities and the nonprofit organization that ensures access to them.

Tye-dye and flowers are in season! Don your colors and hike with "Missed the Turn Mark" and the intrepid Mindy! We will head to the Campbell Mesa trail system and knock off a piece of the AZ Trail ending with a look down into Walnut Canyon. With the exception of one big dip (other than me), this is a fairly flat hike. Once done, if in time, you will have the opportunity to sample the Mexican fare of a certain "palace" in Flagstaff (cash only)! Fall conditions and weather in Flagstaff may impact this ascent. Bring water, tye-dyed clothing, flowers in your hair, fringe vests or vintage concert t-shirts, sunscreen and back up gear for early fall in Flagstaff. Weather issues may require us to cut things short. Contact Mark if rain is in the forecast. Cost to non-members is $5
