Sunday, July 24, 2016 - 07:00
Joyce Morningstar - 480-788-9370

Meet at 7:00 am (depart at 7:15) at the Park-and-Ride on the south side of Bell Road, just west of I-17.

Join us for a 4X4 loop around Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument and O’Leary Peak, plus a 1-mile hike to the top of Strawberry Crater.

The forest service roads we’ll be driving are rutted and rocky, with one tippy point and one steep descent. Since most of 20 mile 4x4 route is moderately easy, both 4X4 vehicles and SUVs with high ground clearance are suitable for the adventure.

Wear comfortable clothing a good pair of hiking boots as the short steep hike to top of Strawberry Crater is on loose cinders.

Bring sunscreen, plenty of water, snacks, and a lunch.

If you plan to ride with one of the 4X4 drivers, bring $ for the carpool.

Children and dogs are welcome, if you are a driver.

This event will be canceled if there is inclement weather in the forecast.

Cost to non-members is $5. Guests and new members should contact the hike leader prior to the hike.
