Meet at 7:15 am (depart at 7:30) at Wendy's on Shea Blvd. in Fountain Hills, just west of the Beeline Hwy.

Our hike, south of Sunflower, is a typical desert hike with rocks, scree, and steep sections, but it is also very beautiful with cactus, holly, and rust-colored rock formations. We'll begin on the Pine Creek Loop trail for a mile and a half before getting onto the Ballantine Trail. While on the Ballantine Trail, we'll hike through Camp Creek and an area called the Boulders. True to its name, there are boulders in this area the size of a house. After going through the Boulders, we'll have a short incline before dropping into Ballantine Canyon, where we’ll stop for a quick lunch break at an interesting old cabin next to a corral, then head back to our starting point on the same trail.

Hiking sticks are helpful due to scree on the trail. Also bring 2-3 quarts of water, snacks, and a light lunch.

Non-members - $5 fee and always call the hike leader before the hike.
