Join us on this hike as it climbs into Barnhardt Canyon past a series of switchbacks along Castersen Seep and Sandy Saddle. Dana Downs, a professional geologist will be discussing the folding mechanisms of the metamorphic rocks along the trail. This hike is located in the Mazatzal Mountains starting in alligator juniper, live oak and agave, followed with ponderosa pine in areas at 6,500 feet and higher. Geology fans will enjoy the layers of sedimentary rock which can be seen from the trail. Depending on the amount of rainfall, the hike has the potential of showing waterfalls.
