Rescheduled from Saturday, April 19th

Meet at 7:00 am (depart at 7:15) at the Park-and-Ride, SW corner of I-17 and Bell Rd, next to Denny’s.

Featured in the April edition of Arizona Highways Magazine as the hike of the month, the Bear Mountain Trail is a favorite of Sedona residents and visitors alike because the views from the top of Bear Mountain are as good as any in the Red Rock Country. There are several challenging uphill climbs with a short rock scramble for added enjoyment. We’ll do a partial loop, leaving the main trail part-way up and hiking a faint trail to a beautiful battleship mountain type overlook of Fay Canyon, where we’ll stop for a snack. We’ll then scramble up a slope (easy bushwhacking) and reconnect with the Bear Mountain Trail. After summiting, we’ll return to the trailhead, then take a short drive to the Fay Canyon Trailhead and hike the short Fay Canyon Trail, detouring on a rough scramble to Fay Arch.

Wear sturdy hiking boots, have rain gear (just in case), sunscreen, and bring 2-3 quarts of water, snacks, and lunch. Cost to non-members is $5.
