Meet and depart (promptly) at 6:00 am at the Cholla Trailhead, east side of Camelback Mountain on E. Cholla Lane off Invergordon Road in Paradise Valley. Parking is available along Invergordon and some side streets, but allow time to find it and walk a short distance to the trailhead.

We’ll get to see the new Echo Canyon Trailhead and Trail, approaching it from the east side, ascending up the Cholla Trail and descending to Echo Canyon. This is a tough and sometimes very steep 2.5-mile (one way) hike across Camelback Mountain, rewarded by sensational views of the entire Phoenix metropolitan area. Those wishing to skip the hike back across the mountain can return to the starting point via a pleasant 3-mile walk along McDonald and Invergordon Roads. Although we’ll beat most of the day’s heat, sunscreen is still recommended, along with sturdy hiking boots and plenty of water. Although hiking poles aren’t much good on Camelback, hiking gloves are a real help.

After we’re done, those who wish can join us for breakfast at the Original Pancake House. Cost to non-members is $5.
