General Membership Meeting

Tuesday, February 4, 2014 - 18:45

Marriott Suites in Old Town Scottsdale 7325 East 3rd Avenue (Immediately east of Scottsdale Rd just one block north of Indian School Rd.) Join Flagstaff author and Grand Canyon hiker Tom Martin for a fun presentation on his newest book Big Water, Little Boats, in which he follows the Whitewater exploits of Steve "Moulty" Fulmer. More than a river runner, Fulmer hiked the Grand Canyon beginning with an attempt to hike to Hermit Rapid in 1943. Fulmer did the same hike again in 1977. The builder of Grand Canyon's first dory during the high water heyday of the river before the Glen Canyon dam, Fulmer manages almost 40 years of boating between 1942 in 1978. It is here where he boated with Norm Nevills, Frank Wright, Doc Marston, Pat Reilly, and Martin Litton besides rubbing shoulders with many of the river runners and hikers like Harvey Butchart, who was Fulmer's Scrabble and tennis buddy in Sun City. If you have ever done any hiking or boating in the Grand Canyon, or if you ever plan to, this is one program you don't want to miss! Come early to make sure you have a seat.
