Our hike, on the Mogollon Rim east of Payson, starts out steep, then has rolling ups and downs, followed by another steep section. The plan is to hike the Military Sinkhole Trail to the top of the Rim. Once we reach the Rim we'll hike an additional mile in a westerly direction to a park bench overlooking the beautiful valley below. That’s a perfect spot for our break/lunch before heading back the same trail to our vehicles. Vegetation on this hike consists alligator junipers and manzanita with a few Indian paintbrush scattered around for added color. Although it may be warm, there is usually a nice breeze at the top of the Rim.

Bring/wear sunscreen, hat, 2-3 quarts of water, and lunch/snacks. Hiking boots and sticks would be helpful due to rocky sections on the trail. Cost to non-members is $5.
