Meet at 6:15 am (depart 6:30) at the Park & Ride, SW corner of I-17 and Bell Rd. (Early start to avoid afternoon rains during monsoon season). This hike will start at 7,000 ft and we’ll climb to the lookout tower of Mt. Eldon at over 9,000 ft. We’ll then hike the Sunset Trail, and looping around the mountain using the Upper Oldham, Oldham and Pipeline Trails back to the Fat Man’s Loop and return to the cars. The scenic trail passes through forests of ponderosa pine, douglas fir, and aspen. We’ll have great views of the San Francisco Peaks and Flagstaff below. Bring rain gear, sunscreen, snacks, lunch, plenty of water, and sturdy hiking boots. The hike will be cancelled if there’s a likely chance of rain. Call or email Don by Friday, July 11th to verify that the hike is on. Cost to non-members is $5.
