C LENGTH: ~ 4.0 mi ELEV GAIN: ~ 300 ft PACE: Casual

Meet at 7:00 am (depart at 7:15) at the Park-&-Ride, on the SW side of Bell Road and of I-17.

We will be doing an easy hike, in & out, at 6,990 feet elevation just six miles east of Flagstaff. Here's a trail just a few minutes outside Flagstaff that offers good photo opportunities, interesting geology, great views, and direct access to a longer trail (the Arizona Trail) that stretches all the way across Arizona. Sandys Canyon Trail starts out by skirting the rim of Walnut Canyon, a scenic rift in the same layers of rock that form the upper cliffs of the Grand Canyon. From the trailhead, you get a great view of the San Francisco Peaks with the cliffs of Walnut Canyon in the foreground - time to reach for the camera. Afterwords we’ll gather for some good Mexican food & libations in Flagstaff. Bring sunscreen, hat, boots, plenty of water, lunch or snacks, and $ for carpool. Children and dogs are welcome (NO lap dogs). Cost to non-members is $5.
