September General Membership Meeting

Date:
Wednesday, September 7, 2016 - 18:45

Granite Reef Senior Center, Room 1 - 1700 N. Granite Reef Road, Scottsdale

What’s a desert? How are deserts formed?  And where did the Sonoran Desert come from?  It's not what you think!   Join Dan Gruber from the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy Wednesday night at 6:45 PM to get all the answers.

All the unusual characteristics of our native plants and animals are adaptations that enable them to cope successfully with the challenges presented by the desert environment. Life everywhere has to deal with the local conditions, and our conditions are unique.  We’ll explore the challenges of the desert and the main strategies that have evolved in response.  Through Dan, we will also consider the  challenges of our environment, the implications for living things, and the main adaptations that have evolved to cope with them. Finally, we’ll talk about some specific examples that you’ll see routinely on the trail.  After spending an hour with Dan, you won’t look at the desert the same way again.
