Contact one of the leaders for meetup time and location.

We’ll carpool to the Spur Cross Recreation Area in Cave Creek, and from there head out on this loop hike, ascending and crossing over Skull Mesa along the way. We’ve called it a reverse loop because, after hiking out along Cottonwood Creek, we’ll ascend to the top of Skull Mesa from the east, rather than the more common ascent on the south, then descend on the south and head back overland to Cave Creek itself. The hike has everything from beautiful, rolling Sonoran Desert landscape to shaded riparian areas along Cottonwood and Cave Creeks. The climb up Skull Mesa is strenuous, but the reward at the top, where we’ll have lunch, is a great and unobstructed view of the entire area, including Sugar Loaf Mountain, Black Mesa, Elephant Mountain, and the entire Cave Creek city and surroundings.

For anyone wishing to do so, we’ll end the day with dinner in Cave Creek.

Please wear sturdy hiking boots and bring sunscreen, rain gear if appropriate, and plenty of water and food for snacks and lunch.

Cost to non-members is $5.

In addition, Maricopa County Park fee is $3 per car.

No dogs or children please.
