C+ LENGTH: 7.5 mi ELEV GAIN: 500 ft PACE: Medium

Meet at 6:30 am (depart 6:45) at Wendy's in Fountain Hills, on Shea Blvd. just west of Highway 87 (Beeline Hwy).

Co-leader will meet Ralph in Lakeside and Ralph will lead the hike.

One of the interesting things about this trail is that it passes through several distinct ecotypes. On top of the mesa it moves in and out of ponderosa pine and manzanita scrub. Below the mesa one mainly finds pinion-juniper woodland.

Be sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and water as there is little shade in the pinion-juniper.

After the hike, there will be an option to meet on the rear deck of Ralph’s cabin in Lakeside for a beverage and snacks before the travelers head back to the valley. Total travel time is about 2:45 from Wendy's (with a pit-stop in Payson). No dogs or children.

Please check the website or call the leaders in case the hike is canceled due to weather or forest fire. Cost to non-members is $5.
