Call leaders by Wednesday July 10

Meet at 9:00 am (depart at 9:15) at the McDonalds in Flagstaff. I-17 ends as it enters Flagstaff. The McDonalds is on the left as you start through town. The leaders will be staying overnight Saturday (see Saturday hike above).

We will drive east on Interstate 40 about 13 miles to the National Monument. $5 per person entry fee (free with Golden Age cards). Walnut Canyon is lined on both sides with 700 year old Cliff Dwellings. We will walk down 200 steps to hike around the Island Trail and among 25 dwellings. ½ of the trail is closed for repairs so we will backtrack up to the top. We will hike around on top for views of the other cliff dwellings. After the hike we continue east on 1-40 to check out the new Twin Arrows Navajo Casino and have lunch. Admission ticket to Walnut Canyon is also good at Sunset Crater National Monument and Wupatki National Monument for the rest of the day if anyone wants to visit them. Bring snacks and plenty of water. Hike will be canceled in case of rain. No dogs. $5 fee for non-members.
